The Holiday Amnesty

Canopy & Stars has declared a one-month Holiday Amnesty in a bid to avert climate disaster by planting one million trees

Canopy & Stars has a lot to thank nature for – the whole business for one – and now the glamping specialist believes it’s time to give something back.

As part of the fight against the climate crisis, the company has announced its mission to plant 1,000,000 trees by 2025.

One tree per holiday

From today (01 July 2019), Canopy & Stars will plant a tree for every booking taken until the target is reached.

But the efforts don’t end there: the glamping experts has launched a Holiday Amnesty throughout the month of July. It will plant a tree for any holiday booked in 2019 – regardless of which company it was booked through.

Conscious travellers can head to the Canopy & Stars website https://www.canopyandstars.co.uk/ to submit their claim to the amnesty. A simple form needs to be completed with details of the holiday booked; once submitted a tree will be planted on their behalf.

Embedded restoration

Everyone is aware of the threat posed to the environment by rising CO2 levels; the 2018 landmark UN report shows we have only 11 years to address climate change. Tree planting is one of the most cost-effective methods of doing so.

Canopy & Stars believes that if every transaction we made, every day, gave something back to nature, it would be a huge force in preventing climate disaster. This is the same approach taken on the My Green Pod Marketplace, where a tree is planted with every transaction made.

In the UK we booked 117 million holidays in 2018. If a tree were planted for every transaction it would create a forest 370 times the size of Hyde Park – for football fans, that’s 52,000 football pitches.

One million trees is a huge target and the Holiday Amnesty is the first of a number of initiatives from Canopy & Stars, including encouraging the community of owners and guests to get involved.

Reforesting the tropics

By partnering with reforestation campaigners TreeSisters, a grassroots network planting trees in the tropics (and the same partner as My Green Pod), donations will help to revive habitats, increase biodiversity and create local jobs – all while helping to avert climate breakdown.

TreeSisters is a global network of women who donate monthly to fund the restoration of our tropical forests as a collective expression of planetary care.

As a feminine leadership and tropical reforestation organisation, it exists to call forth the brilliance and generosity of women everywhere and channel it towards the trees.

The goal is to make it as normal for everyone to give back to nature as it currently is to take nature for granted.

Sustainable tourism

Canopy & Stars is a wonderful collection of inspected and selected special places to stay for those who want to experience the great outdoors – across Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Scandinavia.

From humble beginnings back in 2010, it has grown to more than 700 places – including everything from treehouses, yurts and converted horse trucks to cabins, gypsy caravans and even an Iron Age roundhouse or two.

Canopy & Stars champions the small and independent, and is an advocate of sustainable tourism.
