Tennis legend Andy Murray has thrown his support behind WWF’s Knit for Nature campaign, sharing a photo on Instagram wearing the charity’s tiger jumper.

The limited-edition knit is part of WWF’s festive campaign, which encourages the public to try their hand at knitting vintage-inspired wildlife patterns as a way to slow down this festive season, gift more sustainably and raise awareness for wildlife conservation.

In the same post, Murray also revealed his favourite nature-themed book for a winter ‘reading list’: Stick Man by Julia Donaldson.

A firm family favourite, the story celebrates the outdoors and the small wonders of nature.

Murray says, ‘It’s full of adventure, showing resilience and the importance of home, and its one of those tales that makes you smile every time, no matter how old you are.’

Mindfulness tis winter

The Knit for Nature campaign launched on 02 December, encouraging the public to download vintage-inspired knitting patterns by renowned knitwear designer Ruth Herring.

In 1989, Ruth co-released the book Knitting Wildlife; its original knitting patterns and celebrity photoshoots helped raise vital funds for WWF at the time.

This year, the goal is to raise awareness for wildlife this winter while encouraging everyone to have a go at a mindful, sustainable activity.

The knitting patterns can be downloaded here.
