Red Carpet Picture from MyGreenPod Sustainable News

Horyou, a social network that promotes social good, is presenting Horyou Village at the 2015 Cannes Festival. For 12 days, the values of social good will be highlighted through the lenses of art, culture and diversity.

Five Global Cause Days will be featured, with each committed to sharing knowledge, raising awareness and promoting solidarity among those devoted to the featured causes. Personalities and non-profit organisations from around the world will join the effort to spread positivity.

Horyou interviews Google’s Eric Schmidt

‘We believe that everybody has a right to a good connectivity and access to a smartphone and that that’s how they will get their education, it’s how they’ll get their safety, it’s how they’ll get their economics and it’s how they’ll be entertained…

‘Imagine a much smarter world where if politicians say things that are false, citizens say “that’s not true”… Governments need to respect that new ideas and entrepreneurs are the key way to create jobs, to create wealth. It’s always been true.

‘You take a static country where they don’t allow for innovation, they don’t allow for new ideas. They slowly die. You have to accommodate. You have to allow for the new young people. They have to have jobs, they have to have an opportunity to make their mark. It’s always been true. The internet is a way of making that happen faster, but the political systems have to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.’

Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google

Five days, five themes

17 May: Nature & Wildlife will focus on reinforcing the need to preserve the Earth and its wildlife.

18 May: Education for All will highlight the importance of accessible education around the world.

19 May: Women Empowerment will celebrate the achievements of women while advocating gender equality.

20 May: Innovation for Good will create awareness of challenges and potential solutions that spur and enable social innovation on all levels.

22 May: All for Climate will give voice to efforts that are changing the way we think about and use natural resources.

Connecting for good

Horyou’s members, organisations and personalities promote a humanistic approach to technology and encourage positive action to prompt meaningful interaction. The idea is to use social networking to help transform ideas into concrete actions and build constructive relationships between the online and offline worlds.

Thirty organisations that promote social good in all sorts of ways will be present at an exhibition area to advance their causes by raising awareness and sharing information.

‘The non-profit world and its initiatives will resonate in Cannes this year. We are very happy to have non-profit organisations from our social network showcasing their contributions at Horyou Village. We invite everyone around the world and everyone present at Cannes to participate and join us in this unique initiative. This will be a special moment where diversity and culture connect for good, and cinema and art join forces at the heart of the world’s most prestigious cinematic event.’

Yonathan Parienti, Horyou founder and CEO

Global consciousness

Located in the gardens of Le Grand Hotel on the famed Croisette, Horyou Village will be a cultural hub to promote a global social consciousness through multimedia experiences.

Featuring a dedicated interview stage for local and international artists and personalities, concerts and a screening area set up to showcase socially oriented documentaries, Horyou Village will be a focal point for participants to engage with attendees and film personalities to promote their ideas and projects. Everything will be shown at horyouvillage.com on the Horyou social web channel.
