The oven mitts are off: the ‘Great Vegan Bake-Off’ is on!
Since 2014, contestants in PETA’s Great Vegan Bake-Off have been on a roll with one scrumptious submission after another – and now the annual competition is in search of this year’s sweet successor.
Rise to the challenge
Twelve finalists will have their recipes featured by PETA, and the winner will be crowned the Great Vegan Bake-Off Champion for 2016.
Contestants in the Great Vegan Bake-Off must submit their recipes via this entry form before 17.00 on 22 September.
‘Whether whipping up a treat that’s fudgy or fluffy, crumbly or creamy, the best bakers are light-years ahead of using eggs and dairy foods. PETA’s Great Vegan Bake-Off has shown year after year that baking yummy treats without using any animal-based foods is a piece of cake!’
PETA will pick the baked goods that look the tastiest and post the finalists on its website by 30 September. A public voting round will follow, which will end on 09 October. The winner will be announced on 14 October.
Pros of a vegan diet
As well as saving many animals every year from daily suffering and a terrifying death, ditching dairy foods and eggs reduces your risk of suffering from the UK’s top killers, including heart disease, strokes, diabetes, obesity and cancer.
Going vegan also helps the environment, since animal agriculture is one of the biggest contributors to climate change.
These are just some of the reasons why millions of British people – including 20% of 16- to 24-year-olds, according to Mintel research – have chosen to ditch animal-derived foods.
