Hotel Capo d’Orso Thalasso & SPA, a five-star property by My Green Pod Hero Delphina hotels & resorts, has joined The Leading Hotels of the World (LHW), the world’s most exclusive collection of independent luxury hotels.

It is the only hotel from Costa Smeralda to the La Maddalena Archipelago to have been awarded this accolade, which places Hotel Capo d’Orso among the most iconic hotels in the world.

The hotel is uniquely nestled within the Cala Capra Park, overlooking the breathtaking Costa Smeralda. Its recognition by LHW demonstrates that sustainability and luxury can go hand in hand, and that there is no need to compromise when looking for a holiday that won’t cost the Earth.

The entry into this prestigious portfolio celebrates the growing demand for authentic Sardinian hospitality, at a time when the hotel group is preparing for a record number of UK visitors to its properties in 2025. This is based on the destination’s steady 10% year-on-year growth of visitor numbers since 2022.

A green portfolio

Delphina’s sustainability journey began even before the first of its resorts was established. Today the chain uses 100% green energy from renewable sources in all Delphina hotels and the main office. This has saved around 20,663 tonnes of CO2e over the last six years – roughly the same amount sequestered annually by 146,089 trees.

This effort culminated in the We are green® brand, conceived and registered by Delphina to symbolise its commitment to the environment.

The company has adopted significant plastic free policies, saving 722,871 plastic bottles over the last four years.

The chain’s Genuine Local Food Oriented® initiative supports local suppliers, promoting healthy cuisine based on genuine, seasonal and where possible local ingredients.

‘Joining The Leading Hotels of the World is a very important moment for our company and the region because it is a milestone in a development plan that affects all of Northern Sardinia. Delphina hotels & resorts has long since consolidated its 5-star offering and its philosophy that encompasses sustainable luxury and the integration of our properties into their natural landscapes, along with upholding of local traditions.

‘With this important affiliation and after a substantial cycle of investments, Hotel Capo d’Orso ranks among the most prestigious and iconic brands on the island, thanks also to its unique connection with nature. We are proud that the property and management are 100% local, and we take our responsibility seriously as the only hotel from Costa Smeralda to the La Maddalena Archipelago to be part of LHW.’

What makes a Leading Hotel?

The Leading Hotels of the World is a collection of independent and luxury hotels with a long-term commitment to providing remarkably uncommon travel experiences.

The result is a curated portfolio of hotels and an independent community that brings together over 400 five-star facilities in 80 countries, for international travellers seeking exclusive services and genuine local experiences.

This recognition follows an ambitious multi-million investment plan over the past three years, which has allowed Hotel Capo d’Orso to position itself as the only Sardinian-owned and managed hotel among the most distinguished establishments in Northern Sardinia.

Thanks to its strategic location, it is also the only hotel in the LHW collection located between Olbia and the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park.

‘We are thrilled to welcome Hotel Capo D’Orso Thalasso and SPA into The Leading Hotels of the World Family.

‘This extraordinary property in Northern Sardinia embodies the timeless charm and nurturing essence that define our collection. From its serene Mediterranean ambiance to the thoughtful details crafted for romance, relaxation, and exploration, Capo d’Orso invites travellers to embrace the moment and connect with nature’s wonders. It is a true haven of elegance and harmony, perfectly aligned with LHW’s commitment to authentic, independent luxury experiences.’

‘Joining LHW represents an opportunity to strengthen our presence in strategic markets such as the UK, alongside the United States, Middle East and Asia, where demand for Northern Sardinia is constantly growing. We are confident that Gallura will become an increasingly international destination, thanks to its pristine nature and deeply rooted island traditions.’

Exclusive dining

Sardinia, fondly known as the ‘Caribbean of Europe’, rivals long-haul destinations for British holidaymakers looking for a green, luxury and authentic holiday with epic landscapes.

Located in Palau, at the foot of the Bear Rock natural monument, Hotel Capo d’Orso is a haven of privacy and relaxation with a private marina and a fleet of boats to access the Islands.

Guests can enjoy hidden hammocks dotted along the seafront, paths leading to the lighthouse and beaches Cala Capra and Cala Selvaggia overlooking the Isle of Caprera up to Costa Smeralda.

Authentic local Gallurese hospitality can be experienced from sunrise to sunset – with breakfast served to the sound of a harp on the sea-view terrace or at L’Ile Flottante, a waterfront location for exclusive dining.

Having joined the 2025 Gambero Rosso Restaurants Guide, the restaurant Il Paguro offers the freshest daily seafood specialties and is a favourite location for yachts docking at the hotel’s private marina.

Healing waters

The Thalasso & SPA Center L’Incantu is a few steps from the sea and offers a rejuvenating experience through thalassotherapy, with heated seawater pools and open-air massages amid the scent of Mediterranean gardens.

For golf enthusiasts, the 9-hole Pitch & Putt course is nestled in lush greenery in a panoramic position overlooking the islands. And to discover the surrounding area, exclusive skippered boat trips depart directly from the private marina.

These include the sailing ship Pulcinella, a Norwegian wooden vessel from 1927 which set sail to explore the islands of the La Maddalena Archipelago.

New for 2025

In anticipation of its season reopening in May 2025, Hotel Capo d’Orso aims to meet the needs of the luxury traveller with renovated rooms, including exclusive Junior Suite Executives and Caprera Open Space Suites, all strictly sea-view and featuring Mediterranean design enriched by precious artefacts from local artisans, along with the restyling of wellness areas and gardens.

These upgrades followed last year’s complete renovation of the cliffside gym and the enhancement of the golf offering with a professional simulator, for playing virtually on the world’s most prestigious courses.
