Hot on the heels of his nomination for the 2026 P.E.A. (People. Environment. Achievement.) Award for Energy, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has earned a spot on the shortlist for this year’s Political Purpose Awards.

He is joined on the shortlist by Feargal Sharkey, environmental campaigner and former lead singer of the Undertones, and other politicians, councils and campaigners who have done the most to champion environmental causes over the last year.

The awards, now in its fourth year, is run by Nature 2030. Previous winners include Sir Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, and Caroline Lucas, former leader of the Green Party.

Champions in public life

The panel of judges who selected the shortlist includes representatives from Greenpeace UK, London Wildlife Trust, Keep Britain Tidy and Animal Friends Insurance.

At this year’s ceremony, set to take place in September in the House of Commons, awards will be presented across 10 categories. Alongside category winners, Nature 2030 will honour one individual with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

For the first time, an award will go to the Campaigner of the Year, recognising those whose work has shifted public debate and driven political action for the environment.

‘It is an honour to recognise the very best environmental champions in UK public life. From the corridors of Westminster to grassroots movements across the country, the stakes could not be higher, and these awards shine a light on those rising to meet them.’
