Divine Chocolate launches limited edition design celebrating women’s empowerment
Women and chocolate

This International Women’s Day (08 March) Divine Chocolate, the Fairtrade and farmer owned chocolate company, will celebrate the amazing power of chocolate to unite women – from cocoa farmers to chocolate lovers.

As part of its commitment to empowering women cocoa farmers and continuing to work towards their equality and prosperity, Divine Chocolate will launch a limited edition bar in spring 2017. In a UK first, the bar will feature an illustration of a female cocoa farmer.

Empowering women

Divine Chocolate is the UK’s only Fairtrade chocolate company that is also 44% owned by Kuapa Kokoo, a cocoa farmers’ co-operative in Ghana.

Together Divine and Kuapa empower women cocoa farmers to gain the necessary skills, confidence and influence to succeed in their industry, including through support programmes partly funded by Divine Chocolate, like adult literacy classes or model farming schemes.

‘It is very important for women to take part in leadership positions because women are a part of Kuapa and they take part in all aspects of cocoa production. By taking advantage of the opportunities Kuapa provides, women learn together how to improve their farms and their family’s income.’

Improved quality

Divine and Kuapa invest in women because it is shown to lead to better quality cocoa to create the most delicious chocolate, as well as thriving communities.

When women have additional income to invest in their families and communities, the skills and confidence to participate fully in their industry and their rightful place and share of voice in their organisation, communities will flourish.

Inspiring stories

The new limited edition bars feature the stories of eight inspiring women (see right) empowered by Kuapa Kokoo, including Juliet and Fatima, the current president of Kuapa. Kuapa Kokoo is now the largest cocoa growers’ co-operative in the world.

You can also look out for the ‘Gender Equality’ icon printed on the inside wrapper, representing one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Divine wants to raise awareness of the UN’s universal call to action to end poverty and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Divine Chocolate 70% Dark Chocolate is made with premium quality Fairtrade cocoa and pure cocoa butter. The other ingredients are carefully sourced from Fairtrade growing communities around the world with Fairtrade sugar from Malawi and Fairtrade vanilla from Madagascar for a treat as delicious as it is rewarding.

Divine Chocolate hopes the limited edition bar celebrating the empowerment of women will be another reason for British women to choose this delicious chocolate.
