No KFC? No problem

In response to the #KFCCrisis, PETA has announced the UK’s top 10 spots for vegan fried chicken

The closure of KFC shops across the UK has been termed a ‘crisis’: there are reports of chicken smuggling, dumped poultry and delivery drivers working around the clock.

#KFCCrisis trended on Twitter and bags of seasoning mixed up to match KFC’s secret flavouring – a secret held under lock and key – are for sale on eBay.

But there is hope for all the fast food fiends looking for a new fix: PETA has created a list of the UK’s Best Vegan Fried Chicken. The winners include the following:

Top 10 vegan chicken spots

The problem with chicken

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that ‘animals are not ours to eat’ – notes that chickens are smart, social and sensitive animals who love their families and value their own lives.

Chickens raised for their flesh on factory farms are routinely fed antibiotics and bred to grow so large that their legs often collapse under their own body weight.

At the abattoir, they’re shackled upside down, their throats are slit, and they’re scalded in defeathering tanks – sometimes while still conscious.

‘All our wonderful winners deliver plant-based chicken with huge flavour and zero cruelty. PETA’s top-10 list will help those turned away from KFC to get their fried ‘chicken’ fix without the battered flesh of dead birds.’
