It’s crunch time

Avallen looks to the future of the drinks industry with climate positivity and the release of its Bee More Report

It's crunch time

Ahead of Earth Day (22 April), planet-positive calvados brand Avallen, a My Green Pod Hero, is hoping to inspire the drinks industry with the release of its first ever sustainability report.

Avallen’s Bee More Report is a completely transparent document that sets a benchmark by revealing exactly how much progress the brand has made so far on its mission to tackle the climate emergency, along with its future commitments to both people and the planet.

Calvados gets a makeover

Avallen is a floral, fruity and proudly apple-forward calvados brand that’s on a mission to be the world’s most planet-positive spirit.

Produced entirely in the west of Normandy under strict rules, Avallen is aged for two years in French oak before being bottled with no added sugar, caramel or boisé (an oak syrup used to make spirits taste older).

In a category dominated by old-fashioned producers, Avallen represents a young, fresh and apple-filled future with sustainability at its core.

Apples, water and time

Since its launch in 2019, Avallen has embarked on a mission to take action against the climate crisis and catastrophic biodiversity loss.

The goal is to inspire those both inside and out of the drinks industry by giving back more than they take.

Thanks to impact-led production methods, use of three simple ingredients (apples, water and time) and eco-friendly packaging (its label is quite literally made out of apple pulp), Avallen is leading the way for a more sustainable drinks industry.

‘We’re very proud of how far Avallen has come, but there’s still a lot of work to do. We recognise that with more growth comes more responsibility and more opportunities to make a difference. We’re launching this Bee More Report so that Avallen can take on greater accountability and showcase absolute transparency about the impacts we make on people, planet and profit.

‘Whether you’re a brand owner looking to step up your sustainability game, or a concerned citizen trying to find out about the values that power your favourite products, the Bee More Report is here to offer more than you might expect. After all, we can’t ask you for more planet positivity if we’re not prepared to share what we’ve learnt along the way. Our mission is to be the world’s most planet-positive spirits brand – and we’re only just getting started!’

’Bee more’

In 2020, Avallen successfully raised just over £250,000 on the crowdfunding platform Seedrs to support the next stages of the company’s growth.

More than 300 people, from friends and local bartenders to corporate CEOs, invested in the future of the sustainable drinks brand and its belief that the spirits industry can indeed ‘bee more’ – more than a refreshing drink, more than a great cause and more than just a neutral impact.

Following this investment, the spirits brand has decided to release its first ever Bee More Report.

The report explains how Avallen’s production actively removes 2.73kg of CO2 from the atmosphere with every bottle – the equivalent of removing the emissions caused by driving 13 miles, or 21km, in an average UK car – and how its sustainable business practices and company culture are revolutionising the drinks sector.

This includes a commitment to water-saving practices, which means only 1.2L litres of water is used to produce a bottle of Avallen.

To put that into perspective, it takes 13 litres to make a single bottle of bourbon, on average. But don’t just take the founders’ word for it, the Bee More Report includes third-party verified data to support the brand’s planet-positive activities to date.
