Fast fashion gets funny

Fast fashion gets funny

Fast fashion is so last year.

This will be the theme on the evening of Saturday 19 January, when comedy’s finest minds will come together to poke fun at the hypocrisies and shortcomings of the fashion industry.

For one night only, comedians Sara Pascoe, Aisling Bea, Deborah Frances-White (The Guilty Feminist), Brett Goldstein, Steen Raskopoulos and Sophie Duker will join forces with ethical shoe brand Po-Zu and anti-slavery campaign Slave to Fashion to #StandUpToFastFashion, and raise money for charities Environmental Justice Foundation and The Cup.

It’s not so funny…

Fast fashion is drowning us with mass consumed, disposable and synthetic clothing at a huge environmental and human cost. In footwear, businesses pump out toxic chemicals with little regard to health or safety. Glues and chemicals are inhaled and workers’ rights are abused.

Never has the agenda of global warming and modern day slavery been more important – but we need to act now to create change.

‘We are careering towards Man-Made-Climate-Armageddon with unethical and unsustainable businesses at the helm, outsourcing the problems in a race to the bottom’, says Safia Minney MBE, founder of People Tree and author of Slave to Fashion.

Raising funds (and eyebrows)

The fundraiser, held and organised by Po-Zu, aims to raise laughs, funds and eyebrows in the darkest of months, with proceeds going to charities working to mitigate the negative impact of fast fashion.

‘By putting this fundraiser together we hope to shine the light on the problem, show attendees actionable solutions and put the spotlight on the brands and designers pioneering the way’, says Kate Osborne, PR and marketing manager at Po-Zu.

Sven Segal, founder of Po-Zu, said the awareness is there: ‘People want to shop better with businesses who are doing things right, we just need the platform to get our word out about it all thanks so much for Sara Pascoe & friends helping us to do so.’

It is Po-Zu’s mission to halt the damage that modern footwear causes to people and planet.
