The B Corp calvados

Avallen – the sustainable calvados brand that supports bee populations – has become a certified B Corporation
It's crunch time

After a rigorous review process, Avallen – a planet-positive calvados brand and a My Green Pod Hero – has joined a set of companies certified by B Lab as world leaders in ethical and sustainable business practices.

In its continued work to be a leader in the drinks industry, Avallen has joined a pioneering community of companies that are all working to reduce inequality, lower levels of poverty, create a healthier environment, strengthen communities and create high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose.

Planet-positive spirits

The B Corp process requires a thorough analysis of all aspects of a business with particular focus on governance, workers, community, environment and customers.

It is arguably the most sought-after independent certification a company can receive, and Avallen is one of a very small number of spirits producers that have achieved the rigorous standard.

‘Since the very first days of Avallen, becoming a B Corp was always part our journey to becoming the world’s most planet-positive spirits brand!

‘We could not be prouder to be buzzing into the new year by joining the incredible B Corp community, many of whom have been hugely inspirational to us.

‘B Corps not only imagine a better way of doing business, but are actually showcasing to the world that positive impact and business go hand in hand.’

Inspiring action

Since its launch in 2019, Avallen has embarked on a mission to take action against the climate crisis and catastrophic biodiversity loss and inspire people – both inside and out of the drinks industry – to give back more than they take.

Thanks to impact-led production methods, use of three simple ingredients (apples, water and time) and eco-friendly packaging (recycled glass bottles and apple pulp labels), Avallen is leading the way for the industry to ‘bee more’.

Powering pollination

The company’s ‘Bee More Report’ delves deeper into the company’s climate positive status. It is a completely transparent document that sets an industry benchmark by revealing exactly how much progress the brand has made to date on its mission to tackle the climate emergency, and its future commitments to both people and the planet.

When founders Stephanie Jordan and Tim Etherington-Judge launched Avallen in May 2019, they pledged to plant 10,000 plants over their first three years in business.

In addition to initiatives like the community garden planting, they use beeboms, which are tiny flower-powered weapons of mass pollination for people to plant in their local area, as an activation tool to drive conversations. They also donate to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust via the 1% for the Planet initiative.
