Vivienne Westwood and End Ecocide

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD WANTS YOU TO END ECOCIDE

‘Our financial rulers and the politicians who help them are playing a giant game of Monopoly with the worlds’s finite resources – completely abstract from reality – even though they accept the facts of Climate Change. And yet, you can’t play Monopoly when everybody’s dead. They imagine they’ll be the last people. They don’t care so long as they win.’

Vivienne Westwood

Press conference on January 15, 2014

Vivienne Westwood, fashion designer, says, ‘Ecocide: What a brilliant word. That’s really true. We are practising ecocide on a terrible scale. Bit by bit, area by area… It’s definitely a crime.’

‘One person. Trying to do something. That’s what everybody has to try to do. One person. No matter how effective you are. I’m talking to you, if you then go to speak to somebody else, I’ve done my job. I’m helping to save the world. Everything counts and everyone helps.’
